Position Goal: The general purpose of the VP of Finance is to supervise and control the General Accounting operations to ensure proper and correct recording of financial transactions and communication of these results.

Position responsibilities:
  • Manages the Finance Department by planning, directing, coordinating and controlling human and material resource needs for the delivery of financial information and other departmental activities.
  • Establishes planned accountability for the services of the department through policies and procedures.

  • Reviews all balance sheet and other account reconciliations and ensure staff performs these monthly.

  • Ensures proper expense coding and tax assignment by working with outside accountants.

  • Works with Accounting Staff and Department Management to establish annual clinic and surgery center operating budgets based on projected productivity, reviews monthly reports and variance explanations and discusses with managers and C-Suite.

  • Coordinates and leads monthly discussions with department directors to understand budget variances.

  • Determines Capital Equipment and physical renovation needs of clinic and develops annual Capital Expenditure Plan.

  • Ensures adherence to all accounting policies.

  • Maintains professional competency through formal and/or informal education programs.

  • Serves as key resource in accounting to ensure timely filing of the financial audits/reviews by providing accurate information needed to outside accountants.

  • Implement and ensure adherence to all internal controls.

  • Recommends to System CFO financial policies and procedures and other internal controls to provide for the control and safeguard of clinic assets.

  • Is responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate accounting systems to provide complete, timely, and accurate financial information.

  • Provides financial analysis of operations to identify areas for cost reduction, improved cash flow, and revenue enhancement.

  • Works closely with the billing office to ensure compliance with all reimbursement reporting requirements relative to financial reports and other required reports. Also, has monthly meetings with billing office manager to discuss physician reimbursement and trends twice per month.

  • Provides timely, complete, and accurate financial reports and analyses for presentation at the Executive Committee and All Physician Meetings.

  • Develops and implements internal audit program which can be used to further ensure adequate controls are in place.

  • Carries out special projects as assigned by the System Chief Financial Officer relating to financial operations of the clinic.

  • Keeps up with current rules, regulations, policies and state and federal statutes that affect his or her area.

  • Attends mandatory clinic in-services on compliance.

  • Reports compliance issues in an appropriate and effective manner.

  • Audits and monitors his or her area for compliance issues.

  • Creates an environment that encourages staff to report/resolve complicated issues.

  • Maximizes efficiency in all departmental operations.

  • Participates in team projects as assigned.
  • Manages daily cash flow of the clinic and works with the System CFO and Accounting Staff to determine payment requirements.

  • Assists Accounting Staff in developing cash flow projections for each entity.

  • Communicates regularly with large vendors as well as banking and accounting contacts.

  • Promotes public relations within the Clinic and the community by participating in approved activities and/or sharing information for increasing awareness of clinic services.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years in healthcare accounting required. 5 years preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration required. (Major in Accounting or related field and CPA preferred)
